Playing Catch Up

By Josh

Words to live by.Back to blogging and trying to catch up on the last few weeks. First and foremost, I had the pleasure of attending the Third Coast Conference in Evanston last week. Most of the radio conferences I go to are made up of execs and high level decision makers (what am I doing at these conferences, you ask… Funny… really funny…). Third Coast, in contrast, is mainly made up of pubradio creatives: producers looking to share their work and learn more about their craft. A refreshing change, to say the least. That said, more public radio Program Directors (and other assorted “suits”) should really get involved with this conference to witness all the talented work going on out there, and, of course, consider putting some of this award winning work on their stations. Some highlights for me: Brendan Greeley’s session on how to use bloggers on the radio, Nancy Updike’s talk on how to write awesome scripts for your radio pieces, and Joe Richman’s session on how to make totally awesome radio pieces without using a script. (“Awesome”, of course, being an industry-wide accepted qualitative descriptor). Some snapshots of the conference can be found on Flickr.
